The College of Pharmacy at University of Alkafeel organized a seminar : "Obesity: Health Challenges and Solutions", presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Saad Mashkoor, on Monday morning, 12/9/2024. The seminar was attended by the vice-dean for scientific affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Yasmine Ali Hussein, and the vice-dean for administrative affairs, Asst.Prof.Dr. Ali Ahmed Hussein and a group of faculty members.
The Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Asst.Prof.Dr. Saad Mashkoor, opened the session by defining obesity as one of the most prominent global health problems, highlighting its negative effects on human health and its serious complications such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. He pointed out that the spread of obesity in society is due to several factors: unhealthy lifestyle, lack of physical activity, and poor eating habits.
The session also discussed the latest scientific methods in treating obesity ; drug options, appropriate diets, and surgical interventions when necessary. Dr. Saad explained the importance of health awareness in combating obesity, calling for encouraging society to follow a healthy lifestyle.
The session witnessed interaction as faculty members stirred their questions and suggestions on the ways to prevent obesity and the role of pharmacists in providing health advice to patients.
