In the context of its Ashura programs and in commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his pure progeny (peace be upon them), the  University of Alkafeel held a mourning session on Saturday, July 13, 2024, to memorialize the martyrdom of Abu Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) at the Nasir Al-Din al-Tusi Hall at the College of Dentistry.

The session was attended by the rector of Al-Kafeel University, Prof. Dr. Nawras Muhammad Shaheed Al-Dahan, the vice-rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Nawal Ayed Al-Mayali, deans of the colleges, department heads, and university personnel. 

The session began with the recitation of verses from the Glorious Quran by the reciter Hassan Abbas Razzaq, then a speech delivered by His Eminence seid. Abdul Jabbar Al-Awadi. The life, knowledge, bravery, and unwavering faith of Abu Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) were elucidated  : Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) says : "My uncle Abbas bin Ali had penetrating insight, firm faith, fought beside his brother Al-Hussein , made a great sacrifice and won martyrdom."

Seid. Al-Awadi referred to the painful event of Karbala in 61 AH, where Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) was martyred while trying to bring water from the Euphrates to the camp after his hands were amputated , highlighting his esteemed status which all martyrs will envy on the Day of Judgment.

In the context of the speech, the term "the righteous servant" is interpreted as the servant who is completely devoted in worship and sincerity to Allah Almighty, as well as his dedication to serving the Imam (peace be upon him) and religion. Abu Al-Fadhl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) indeed exemplified the model of the righteous servant, characterized by his total dedication and sincerity in serving Imam Al-Husain (peace be upon him) and in defending truth and justice.

It is noteworthy that Abu Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) was martyred at the age of 33 on the 10th of Muharram with his brother Imam Al-Hussein (peace be upon him), his companions, and his family members. The 7th of Muharram has been dedicated to commemorating such a poignant memory.
